how important are relationships? They are the only thing that’s important. And I had one of my teachers tell me once that the only thing that’s more important than what you do is who you do it with. And boy is that true. Cause you could be dealing with snakes and charlatans and yeah. And if that’s the case, you’re going to have a lot of complications and difficulties to overcome.

    Quentin (01:56)
Hello everyone. Welcome to the Real Estate Pros podcast. I am your host Q Edmonds. You know what I’m gonna say? I’m super excited to be here today. You know, if you’ve heard this before, my guests, they have a way of firing me up right before we come on this camera. And this is no different. Y’all, I’m gonna tell you right now, this is my brother. I’m just gonna put it out there like that. He ain’t claimed me yet as his sibling, but I’m pushing my way into his life. Like, this is my brother, right? ⁓ This gentleman.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (02:20)
    you

    Quentin (02:26)
Listen, he’s been coaching for 15 years. He want to reach people. He has a big number of this region. I believe he said 50,000 people. I believe that’s what I heard. If I’m wrong, he’s going to correct me. But listen, he want people to get clear about their why. He want people to know why is it that you’re doing what you’re doing. When you clear on your why, so much of your vision becomes clearer.

within your life, within your passion, within your goals. And so I am so excited for you guys to get a chance to hear from Mr. Justin Lund. Mr. Justin, how you doing today, All right. Absolutely, man. See? There we go. Absolutely, absolutely. So man, listen, I’m so glad you’re here. I want to dive right in. I want you to take us into your world, right? Tell us.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (03:06)
I’m great. Thanks for having me. It’s great to be here. And I’ll adopt you. That’s good. Like, yeah, I mean, we’re blood. I’ll be on it too.

    Quentin (03:24)
the main things that you’re passionate about, your main focus these days. Listen, if you want to give us a little bit of an origin story of kind of how you got to where you are now, we would love to hear that. And man, if you want to shout out where you are in the world too, we would love to hear that as well. So Mr. Justin Sir, you got the floor, man.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (03:40)
    All right,

thank you, man. So ⁓ I’m in St. George, Utah. This is where I was born and raised. I haven’t been here for about 15, 18 years, unless, excuse me, about the last three years I’ve been back. Good to be back home. Got to spend some time with my mother before she passed and that was awesome. So ⁓ I’m back here again, good to be home. My journey has been a little tumultuous, a little rocky. ⁓

My passion and what I’m really, it is 50,000, Quentin, that’s the number that I’m shooting for. It is a big number and I know that in order to reach that many people, I’ve gotta do it through content, I gotta come on cool podcasts like yours here so that other people can hear what it is that I’ve been through and hopefully take just one page or two out of my book and say, usually it’s to not do what I did, to be honest. There are things that I’ve had to fight through and.

choices and behaviors that I’ve had that range from way back into drug addiction and dark days. And then just in business, not being aware of my numbers and not knowing what I’m doing and just kind of putting up a wall on pretending that I’ll figure that out later and losing everything as a result. And then going through five years of federal intense litigation and just, I mean, so many different twists and turns.

My goal now is again, to help those founders out there.

that I think entrepreneurs are special people. The investor, the builders, the people that get up. Well, this is my wife says it this way. And I like how she kind of puts it into it in a nutshell. She’s like, I don’t know. You guys are nuts because nobody’s telling you what to do. Nobody. You got no lists. You got no time clock, but you get up and you go at it as though your life depends on it. She’s like, if that was me, I’d get up and go to the couch and watch some TV. You know, and that’s

And that I think about that it is unique and it is special. And sometimes entrepreneurs take that for granted that there’s something inside here that it’s my belief that that’s a seed planted in our hearts from God and we have something to do. And until we do it, we just don’t feel right. You know, we got to do something about it. But I also know that journey can be filled with challenges and there are mistakes that can be made. And so that’s that’s why I want to reach 50,000 people.

Whether that’s just taking a look at your numbers right now, like we’re filming in the middle of November, and right now is the time to look at where your numbers are for tax season, because if you wait six weeks, there is nothing you can do about 2025. But if you do something now, you can make a big impact on that. And I’m no tax guru or expert, but I know enough that it’s the largest bill you’re ever gonna pay in your whole life, so you should pay attention to it. And like you said,

before we started, you should confront the fact that taxes are coming and not bury your head in the sand. So that’s kind of where my focus is and how I wanna make an impact ⁓ because I’ve lost a lot of money to taxes. I’ve fought against the IRS and dealt with that and it’s not a good opponent. It’s not a fair fight. So there are…

    Quentin (07:31)
    Yes, sir.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (07:53)
If I can reach anybody out there to make an impact in their business or help them just make a mindset shift or get real clear on what it is that they’re doing and why they’re doing it, then those days when you wake up and you’re just not feeling that 100%, that why that you’re kind of pulling towards you, again, I like how you said it. Like when you know who you are, the next steps become a lot clearer, you And you don’t see the end. I’ve never seen God make that picture like all the way to the end, like super clear.

But when you know who you are and you know why you’re doing what you’re doing and you have that internal burning, then the next decision you can always figure out. And one of my favorite quotes by Martin Luther, you don’t have to see the top of the staircase to take the next step, you know, or the first step. And that’s true. Cause every time you take that step, you get eight inches higher and you can see a little further, right? And then you take another step and you get a little bit more vantage point. And I just love that.

    Quentin (08:24)
    you

Wooo, please sir, you said a whole lot in a short period of time. Man, thank you so much, man. think you said, man, ⁓ man, you said so many different things that got my mind just going. ⁓ But I love it, man. I love you taking us through the journey from where you were to where you are. I love the goal that you got 50,000 people. I love that that’s a big number.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (08:54)
    you

    Quentin (09:20)
And I love that you’re going to hit that number. And so what I want to walk us through, because I want to pick your brain on strategies, right? So what are some of the personal strategies and the business strategies that you’ve put in place that are kind of helping you reach the targets that you’re now hitting?

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (09:23)
    Yeah.

Okay, in terms of my journey to try to reach 50,000 people?

    Quentin (09:46)
to 50,000 people, to even to where you are now, what are some of the strategies personally and business-wise that has helped you kind of turn this thing around and has that thing hitting towards the goal that you’re hitting for?

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (10:33)
I love that question because and it’s not one that I’m often asked so I to share I like it. Um, I think a lot It’s what I was mentioning before it’s it’s getting clear on the why and what it is that I’m working towards and then kind of pulling that vision towards me and So if I look way down the road

    Quentin (10:42)
Now sir, I don’t know if you can hear me, Justin.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (10:54)
And these are one of the things that I do and I do with clients. I do it myself every year. My wife and I go away and we think about, 20 years down the road, what do we want life to look like? And that’s kind of one of my first initial hacks, if you will, because sometimes it’s tough to put together a list of what I want in the next 12 months. There’s a whole lot of limiting beliefs that come in and you’re like, a lot of weird stuff to work through. But when you take a tax 20 years to your age, you’re like,

That’s so far away. Your brain kind of lets go of all the hows and it lets you just dream a little bit. So when you look at that life 20 years from now, you’re like, well, what do we want? You just kind of let some broad brushstrokes go and you kind of start putting some things down on paper and then you start to clarify and you start to bring it in and you start to make it real. The way that I like to make it real is think about my kids. man, I’m gonna have a kid that’s 42. You know what mean? I’m gonna have, I’m gonna have.

I’m probably gonna have grandkids. And then this realization starts to wash over me like, well, what kind of a family do I wanna have? What, as a grandparent, which is bananas for me to even consider, what kind of an environment do I wanna create for all these little people that I may be kind of looking up to me? Well, I wanna have this sort of thing. I wanna have these kinds of traditions. I wanna have, and then this picture that seems really fuzzy to begin with starts to take shape.

And so in mine, for instance, like, I want Christmas to be special. I’d love to have a cabin. I’d love to be in the mountains. I’d love to have snow and just have magical times for little people like we did with our children and like my parents did with me. So it’s like, well, I need a cabin. I’ll write that down. You know, all of a this picture starts, starts getting clearer and clearer. And so I’ve got this exercise that I go through and I take my clients through to help take this, this long-term big range picture.

that it’s just for the purpose of trying to know, well, it boils down to if you don’t know where you’re going, how do you hit the target? know, like better isn’t a goal, more, nah, ain’t gonna do it, man. No, you gotta have some real measurable stuff to stack up against. So your question to me, like, what am I doing? I have that vision, I follow my process, I bring that 20 to 10 to five to three to one year, and now that one year, I don’t have as goals, I have as standards.

    Quentin (12:53)
    Yeah, man.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (13:10)
So I’ll give you a quick example because I mentioned this earlier. One of them this year is my fitness standards because my boys, got three boys and they’re all just, I mean it ain’t fair man. These guys look like thoroughbred racehorses. know they don’t do nothing to try. They are amazing. And they’re like dad you’re kind of soft, you’re kind of pledging, you know what’s going on? Why don’t you just work a little harder? So fine, okay all right I’m gonna do it.

    Quentin (13:26)
    man.

    Catch it?

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (13:36)
So I decided I’m gonna measure everything I eat this year, every gram of every food, every calorie, I’m gonna document it, I’m gonna track it. And now I carry everything I eat in a Yeti cooler right here. And so that became not my goal, but my standard. My standard with this year with fitness and macros was 220 grams of protein every day first. And I gotta get that protein inside of 2,100 calories.

    Quentin (13:46)
    girl. Come on, man.

    Mmm.

    Mm.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (14:06)
That’s what I write down. So now if I want to improve my muscles, I want to drop some fat, I want to do some things like this. Like those are all the things that I kind of want to have. they’re, I mean, I’ve wanted to have those for 10 years. You know what mean? But I never had a standard for it. I can show you pictures from five years ago and be like, damn bro, your face is fat. And so the difference in what changed this year is I said, well, I’m going to bring that into one of my standards for the year. And

    Quentin (14:19)
    Yeah,

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (14:36)
I thought about it last year, but I wasn’t really ready to commit to it. So I went to the gym a little, I did a little more than usual, but my boys, they just kept like, when are you gonna get a six pack? I’m like, I don’t need a six pack, I’m 45 years old. And I’m like, wait, I bet I could. I think I can. Did I really get it? So I just commit, that’s the standard. The other thing in my standards were creating content. I told you before we started filming, Quentin, that in order to reach 50,000 people, I can’t do one to ones.

    Quentin (14:44)
    Mm.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (15:46)
I mean, I can, but that can be the only way. I won’t have enough time in life to reach 50,000 people talking to them one at a time. So I need to get better at reaching bigger crowds and audiences. And that terrified me. So as I’m thinking, man, I’m sitting here in the woods of Vermont, quiet, nobody knows who I am. They don’t know my history. It’s just me and the bears and the moose roaming around out there, right?

I’m thinking, how am going to reach 50,000 people? And do I really want to get serious about that? So it started out as a goal and a vision because it’s part of my long-term picture. But then when I bring it back to one year, it’s do, am I ready to commit to a standard? And if so, what would that standard be? And I said, well, I got to have a minimum. Like I need to produce seven reels a week for Instagram. And I don’t even know how.

I didn’t have Instagram at the beginning of 2024. Like I’d never even been on logged on to the platform, but I knew that’s where everybody was. And I knew that if I was going to do it, I’m going to have to get familiar. So that was my standard and we’ve been hitting that standard. We increased that standard. So now I’ve got a guy, Zach, that helps me do it. And he and I worked through that and we’re putting out two to three reels a day, every weekday, one or two on the weekends. And we’re starting to get better.

Go back to the bottom if you want to see some funny really embarrassing stuff of me. He’s just over the bottom of my account. They’re bad. You know what saying? It’s bad, but that’s where I had to start. I mean I had to go. It wasn’t about how I felt man. It was about I know I gotta get a lot of reps in if I’m ever going to get close to hitting that 50,000 so. Warts and all man. I’m just going to put three out every day and just see how it goes.

Luckily, I think the worst of them were stories, so they probably went away, but they’re still a bunch of bad real.

    Quentin (17:41)
    Yeah.

Mr. Justin, so you are a natural born coach. You are a natural born igniter because the more you talk, the more things were getting ignited in me. ⁓ have lost over a hundred pounds twice in my life and I’m back on that journey. So I would lose it, gain it back, lose it.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (17:59)
    Thank you.

    Congratulations.

    Quentin (18:10)
I’d have gained it back and now I’m losing again. And sir, you said, and I wrote it down, I might not say this cleanly as you said it, but this is what I wrote. I wrote three words, not goals, standards. Not goals, standards. What are the standards that I want in my life? I’m not trying to reach goals. What’s the standard that I’m trying to live my life by? And man, I…

Absolutely love that. I told the audience before one of my favorite books is Atomic Habits. Not sure if you heard of that book or not. Yeah. Love that. Yes. Exactly. Right. And so creating new habits, changing your identity. And so now for my brother, Justin, listen, don’t tell me about your goals. What are your standards? And bro, those three words, I’m man, that has to go up somewhere where I can see it every day.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (18:43)
    yeah. ⁓ yeah, for sure.

    Mm-hmm.

    Quentin (19:05)
not goals, standards. And so, man, I appreciate you. Like I said, you’re a natural coach, you’re a natural igniter because you just kept igniting things in me just over and over as you talk. And so you’ve mentioned Zach, the guy that’s helping you out. You mentioned your sons who are helping you out, right? They’re motivating you in so many different ways, right? And I know, right? But I want to pick your brain a little bit.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (19:21)
    Yep.

    Monks, yeah.

    Quentin (19:35)
and see how you view relationship building. know, because Zach, your boys are in your life. I also know that, you know, you said you’re in the woods, but I do want to get your vantage point when it comes to relationships. Like, are relationships important to you? Have they made a big difference in your life? Can you talk to me a little bit about that?

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (19:54)
Yes, absolutely. A thousand percent. And I don’t know if you ever heard of a book from Napoleon Hill called Outwitting the Devil. If not, you should check that out. And the funny, not funny, the interesting part about that book is he wrote it, I he’s been dead for decades. He’s been dead a long time. The book just came out in 2011, I believe, because his wife would not allow him to release it. He…

    Quentin (20:02)
know, but I’m writing it down.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (20:22)
She was convinced that if he were to publish that book while they were alive, they’d be ostracized. They’d be like just it would not be good. And it’s an interesting story. I think you’ll love it. But he speaks about this concept called drifting. And that’s what happened to me when I went to the woods to a large degree. And it’s this bittersweet time for me because for 12 years, I drove my kids to school every single day. I was there.

make them breakfast and dinner with them. Like I’m more connected to my kids lives than most dads ever get the opportunity to be connected. And that is a great blessing to me. At the same time, I didn’t do anything that your question just asked me about was building relationships. I disconnected from the outside world and went inside to my family. And so I don’t know that again, I don’t really regret it because of the great connection that I got with my kids.

But at the same time, it really slowed, it took a toll on me that I didn’t recognize in the moment until I came back here to Utah and began to start rebuilding some of my connections, my network, my relationships. And to your point, Quentin, the power and the importance of connections and relationships is key. Your network is your net worth, as the cliched saying goes, but it’s true. Everything that I’ve ever done.

Well, we’re doing content with Zach and he’s asking me about these days. Like, okay, what was it like when you’re doing, you’re doing a hundred million dollars a year, you know, what was the deal? What was your life like? Cause that was quite a while ago, long before his days here. And I’m explaining to him and it, you know, I know that I was working, but the things that I was doing were so different and it was only relationships. Like that was it. I was the CEO at the top and I had 98 employees.

And I worked, but my work day consisted of get up, drive to the airport, get on a plane, sit up front in the plane, usually go to, you know what saying? Like go out, meet somebody, make a new connection, build a new relationship, take them out to a nice fine dining experience. Sometimes take them to the Rolex store and buy them a nice gift and really like try to firm up that relationship. And then from there,

    Quentin (22:24)
    Come on now.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (22:45)
we would do a million dollars a month for the next five years with that person. You know, like

how important are relationships? They are the only thing that’s important. And I had one of my teachers tell me once that the only thing that’s more important than what you do is who you do it with. And boy is that true. Cause you could be dealing with snakes and charlatans and yeah. And if that’s the case, you’re going to have a lot of complications and difficulties to overcome.

But even if you’re not super clear on what you’re doing or if you’re still figuring things out, but you’re doing it with good, wholesome, nice, kind people who shares your morals, your values, your ethics, you will figure it out. You’ll figure it out quickly. They will raise you up. What I tell my kids over and over again from the 23 year old to the 14 year old is you are the sum of the five people you spend time with. Choose that stuff so carefully. My son was leaving.

to go move to a different part of the country and I said, son, you’re going somewhere you don’t know anybody. Just be, if I could have one wish, it would be that you are so intentional, you are so deliberate about the five people that you make connections with. Look at their lives, look at their results, and if they’re not where you wanna be in a year or two, pick a new one. Just be intentional with your relationships.

    Quentin (24:10)
Sir, Justin, man, thank you so much for your honest, authentic takes on relationships. Thank you for taking me from, with a lot of us, wish we could be is that dad that you are, right? And you took the time, 12 years, I heard you say, 12 years, investing in your children, investing in your kids. And so that was relationship building. Relationships is just not…

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (24:39)
    That’s true.

    Yeah.

    Quentin (24:40)
You know, so in a sense,

bro, you was very consistent at mastering the most important relationship besides your wife that you needed to have. And then now that same tenacity, that same consistency, because the discipline don’t change, you kind of just redirect the discipline. So it was the discipline 12 years with my kids. Now discipline, I’m going to reach 50,000 people. And this is how I’m going to make this new connection and new relationship. And so again,

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (24:48)
    Yeah. ⁓

    Quentin (25:09)
I thank you for your unique perspective when it comes to relationships. I, know, and I, no, absolutely.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (25:12)
Thank you. I appreciate that comment. You know that that’s really nice.

I guess I’ve never even considered it that way, but you’re right. I need it is a relationship that I’m having not just with a camera, but with the people that I know are out there on the other side of that that are one, two, three, five years into their first business and they’re they’re hitting their head against the ceiling. And I’m like, brother, please take a minute. Just look at this because you can just

    Quentin (25:37)
    Yeah.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (25:42)
burst through that ceiling and go into a whole new level with subtle small changes. I appreciate you, Quentin. Thank you.

    Quentin (25:47)
    ⁓ No,

man, I appreciate you, sir. Listen, we coming up on time, I could literally probably talk to you for hours. I mean, we can just keep going on just different things, ⁓ But I thank you, man, so much. I want to do this. If someone wanted to reach out to you, connect with you, collaborate, get coached by you, how can they reach out to you, Justin?

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (25:55)
    Sorry.

Yeah, that I’m on. I appreciate that invitation. And as a part of trying to reach 50,000 people, I’m personally jumping into the DMs of all the socials. So you can find me on YouTube. You can find me on TikTok. Instagram’s probably the best one for me because the messaging platform is the best to work through. So if you come find me at it’sjustinlund on Instagram, if you’ve got a question about your business, come ask. Like it’s me. I will do my best.

I want to, I’ll point you to some of the videos that we have if they’re out there and if I don’t have one, I’ll make it if I have it. And if I don’t got the answer, I’ll point you to somebody else who might, but I’d love to hear from people and I’d love to follow, know, come follow me on Instagram, help me hit 50,000. I think we just passed 8,000. So I got 42 K to go.

    Quentin (27:06)
Let’s go. Let’s go. Well, listen, y’all heard him. Y’all go find my man. Let’s drive these numbers up. Let’s get him to these 50,000 quick. I’m not saying, you know, I got the influence to do it, Justin, but I’m putting it out there. I’m the call out there. Tell somebody to tell somebody, you know, to go follow my man, Justin, because I do believe that he is going to ignite you. You’ve heard him. You’ve heard what he said. And so, Justin man, personally, sir, thank you so much. Thank you for your story.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (27:19)
    Yeah

    Thank you brother.

    Quentin (27:35)
Thank you for your perspective. Thank you for your time. Like this was really, really good for me. I know it was good for our audience, but it was really good for me. And so man, thank you so much for being here today.

    Justin Lund @itsJustinLund (27:45)
You got it. Thank you, Quintin. I appreciate it.

    Quentin (27:47)
    Absolutely.

So listen, you heard me. This is a call to action. Go find Justin. Follow him. But then also, make sure you subscribe here, right? Make sure that you are subscribed, because you do not want to miss out on these incredible people that we just continue to just have on, just like Mr. Justin. So, sir, I thank you so much.
