Yeah, definitely. I would say yeah, it was not smooth sailing at all to get to the actual product and idea. We had to pivot multiple times. We scrapped entire ideas. This one specifically we’ve been working on for a couple of months, but I say for the better part of a year, I’ve been just building out ideas, testing them out, seeing how people do feedback wise. I think the most important thing I learned was just to just don’t be afraid.to move quick and like pivot fast. think a lot of people like they think they spend a lot of time into something and it should work. Like maybe it doesn’t work. Like you can’t think of it as wasted effort. You just got to keep moving and keep trying.
Quentin Edmonds (02:07)
Hello everyone. Welcome to the Real Estate Pros podcast. I am your host, Q Edmonds. And you know what I’m going to say? I’m excited to be here today. I really am. I always say that and I mean it. always excited and spying enthusiasm when I find people that I can talk to and be able to see things from their perspective. And today is no different. There’s someone here that has a software tech for real estate. And he’s really streamlined the process, can give you some specs in under 30 seconds or 30 seconds or more. And so I’m just really excited for him to talk about his service, talk about his business, talk about what he’s built. And so please allow me to introduce you guys to Mr. Abhi. Mr. Abhi, how you doing today,
Abhi Bharatham (02:52)
Good, good, thanks for having me on.Quentin Edmonds (02:54)
All right, man. I appreciate you, sir. I’m so glad to have you here. And listen, I’ll be honest with you. I kind of want to dive in. I want you to tell the people what your main focus is these days. Maybe it was a little bit of an origin story about how you got started, know, where the idea came from, different things like that. And then if you don’t mind telling them a part of the world you went, I’m pretty sure they would like to know that as well. So, sir, the floor is yours, man.Abhi Bharatham (03:18)
Yep. So I’m based out of San Francisco right now. and a bit of an origin story. Yes. So I’m 23. I started real estate about two years ago in college, mainly wholesaling, a couple of buy-in holds. I joined some investor groups and I pretty much learned how, learned everything I know from there. I curiously, I actually went to college for computer science. so I have a master’s degree, in machine learning and AI.I was like, might as well try to mix both of them. So that’s how we came out with the new software we just launched, Bricked AI. So it’s an AI comping and underwriting tool that we’ve been working on for a couple months now. Meant to streamline, like you said, the whole comping, underwriting, and then just going straight to an offer. So it gives you all your comps, ARV, current value, rehab estimates. It’s meant to make it really easy to actually identify good deals and make the right offers with the right numbers.
Quentin Edmonds (04:13)
Perfect, man. I love it. love it. Thanks for walking. Walking the story. 23, man. Started real estate two years ago. mean, man, you want a journey now. You got an AI company, man. You’re on quite the journey. You’re selling very well, And so I kind want to pick your brain on like, where the passion comes from, two, what are some of the core strategies that you’ve identified personally in business that you think help you out as you’ve been on this journey?Abhi Bharatham (05:28)
So passion wise, yeah, my, family has been doing real estate for a while. and they’ve done well with it, mainly just buy and hold rentals. nothing crazy like flipping or anything like that, but yeah, my parents have been doing it for a while. So I always had an interest in it. I guess it always kind of stood out to me. Cause like, I guess the more you hustle in this industry, like the better you can do for yourself. you don’t really need like crazy degrees or like any of that sort. so I was, I just wanted to give it a try.And honestly, college seemed like a good time. I didn’t have much money, but that’s why I started wholesaling. I figured it was like the easiest, like the lowest barrier to entry into real estate. So I figured, yeah, I might as well try out my luck. That’s how I got into it. As for any kind of techniques, yeah, I would say like there’s so much content available on internet and that’s how I got started. Just like watching YouTube videos, stuff like that.
Initially and I would say like anyone who’s trying to get in like you don’t have to pay for like a crazy course or like have to like Dish out like thousands of dollars to actually get into it like I think it’s just more about like getting yourself out there and actually just starting so
Quentin Edmonds (06:28)
Yeah, yeah. What do your parents think man? Are you getting any kind of feedback from parents? I know you said that you know the family been in real estate. What kind of feedback you get from your parents man?Abhi Bharatham (06:40)
Nothing much like honestly I use them as use them as a as investors sometimes like if you have any money lying around be like hey like I got a good deal if you wanna hop in. so I’ll give them the occasional pitch but yeah.Quentin Edmonds (06:53)
You mean? What are parents for man? That’s what y’all for. Like it’s a family business. Come on y’all. me. on. I’ll be boy out. You know what I’m saying? No, I get that. I understand that. That’s great man. That’s great. I love to hear that. I love to hear you got the support of your family, support of your parents man. And I love you guys scared to go for the pitch. I love it. They give them the elevated pitch. I love it. So listen man, what’s the real next goal for Brick AI? Like what are you looking to solve? What are you looking to scale?
What’s the real next goal for you,
Abhi Bharatham (07:32)
Yeah, so I think my goal is just to bring AI into the real estate industry in general. I think there’s, I’ve been in the industry for a while. I’ve used like a bunch of softwares and I can’t say I’m like thoroughly impressed by a lot of them. I would say like a lot of them are dated, they’re older. And especially with the AI now, like it’s here in San Francisco, like Silicon Valley, it’s like booming. Like every day you see new ways they’re using it, new companies popping up.And I think it’s about time, like real estate change as well. Surely it’s going to be slower. It’s going to be different. Every industry is, but I think the main goal for me is to try and build out those tools that can be extremely, extremely useful for investors. Just like people who are trying to get into the industry or like big business owners too, like pretty much anyone.
Quentin Edmonds (08:19)
Yeah. So is the goal to stay in San Francisco is to go is to go to grow his thing. National is the thing that grows thing international. Like what’s what’s what’s the vision for that?Abhi Bharatham (08:31)
Yeah, looking, we’re already nationwide. ⁓ I guess like our tool works anywhere in the United States and we have users from like pretty much like, I think around over 20 States now. And the goal would be to stay in San Francisco, but hopefully quit my nine to five. I still work as software engineer at Amazon. hoping to make the jump there and actually quit my full-time work and do this. YeahQuentin Edmonds (08:56)
Yeah, I understood. Has there been any kind of adversities as you built Brick AI? Like, has it been smooth sailing or have you hit some bumps in the road? And I’m going tell you why I asked that, because we have people that’s watching that on different parts of their journey, you know, and I want to show them that the road, the journey to build success, like there’s sometimes our adversity, things go sideways. And so I’m just wanting to pick your brain on as you’ve been building, are there any adversity you faced?Abhi Bharatham (09:59)
I think the most important thing I learned was just to just don’t be afraid. ⁓to move quick and like pivot fast. think a lot of people like they think they spend a lot of time into something and it should work. Like maybe it doesn’t work. Like you can’t think of it as wasted effort. You just got to keep moving and keep trying.
So
Quentin Edmonds (10:36)
Yeah, no, I think that’s amazing advice. That way people don’t get stuck. You know, they have this saying, they talk about fixed mindset versus growth mindset. Like when your mind gets fixed, like you said, like, it’s got to work, it’s got to work, but it’s still not working. You’re like, it’s got to work, it’s got to work, but it’s still not working. Sometimes you have to be able to pivot and take little pieces that did work and then move on to what, you know, to that growth mindset to say, okay, this is not working. What do I do now?And not getting stuck and looking at yourself, not as a failure, but just say, this idea may have failed. Let’s move on to the next idea so we can find success. And so I absolutely love that mindset, man. Absolutely. Now know you mentioned that, you know, is a, is a two man operation. So, you know, I know you got somebody on board with you. And so I want to talk about relationships for a little bit, you know, how has relationships impacted your business? How has relationship impacted you?
As you were building, can you talk a little bit about relationships for me?
Abhi Bharatham (11:39)
Yeah, definitely. So yeah, there’s like a, I guess, relationship with my co-founder, with the customers, with like all my friends who have kind of helped me and like supported me through like building it. ⁓ I can talk, I guess, like a while on each one of them. But yeah, I’d the main thing is like customers. It’s always customer first, like make sure you understand what they want. I think that’s the most important part when you’re actually building some software, build something that…useful to them. Yeah, and like all my friends family have been super supportive, like as I’ve been building it. I can’t I have to say like, I probably sacrifice a lot of social time just like trying to like, build and like work and do everything at once. So it’s been a lot. Yeah, my co founder. Yeah, he’s great. He’s actually my neighbor from back home. So we’ve known each other for a really long time went to college together. Yeah, and he’s he’s he’s very good.
very good ⁓ at software. He’s had his own company in the past as well. So I guess I learned a lot, a good deal from him as well these past couple of months.
Quentin Edmonds (12:38)
Man, you’re a rare breed, man. Like you said, you you sacrifice a lot of social time. No, I ain’t that you 23 now, but ain’t a lot of 21 year olds. know lesson like kicking off this real estate thing, like really focused in there. So you, are definitely a rare breed brother. And so I appreciate you sharing. I appreciate you being here. I appreciate the things that you’re saying. Um, but yeah, man, is there any kind of otherencouragement, any other kind of motivation, education that maybe you want to give to people, something that maybe we didn’t touch on, is anything in your mind that you feel like, let me drop off this little nugget because I think it would be helpful.
Abhi Bharatham (13:18)
Yeah, one thing I guess I can speak to is like adoption of AI and stuff like that. I know a lot of people are very, I wouldn’t say scared, but like they’re skeptical and they should be. ⁓ I don’t think you can like, just because people are telling you, this is great. Like it’s going to work. Doesn’t mean like it’s going to work for you and your business. So I think what’s important is you should actually, you shouldn’t completely disregard it, but I think everything is worth a try.And I think you just don’t know until you try for yourself, which I strongly believe in. Like, I’m not going to trust what someone says just because they say it until I see how it works myself. So yeah, I think everyone should actually try to give it a try. ⁓ See how it can boost their business, figure out like any gaps or like areas that they know they need help in ⁓ and just go find the tools or like the people who can help them fix it. yeah.
Quentin Edmonds (14:50)
No, I love it, man. I love it. I love everything that I’m hearing. I love the perspective that you have. I love how you said, listen, I’m not going to take your word for it. Let me find out for myself. And I love that. You know, some things are just trial and error. You got to get your hands dirty. You got to put yourself in there and just figure out, you know, is this going to work? Is it not going to work for me? Not no hearsay, just firsthand experience. Like, yeah, like I can do this or yeah, that’s not for me. So no, I definitely hear you on that. For sure. For sure.Well, listen, man, if someone wanted to reach out to you, connect with you, learn more about what you’re doing, what’s the best way for them to get in contact with you,
