Joshua Squires (00:00)
The next real goal for me is I’m right now I’m paying my grant writer to complete this grant that’s going to help end youth homelessness. And the grant is due today. So that’s my next real goal is to turn in that grant application. And

to hopefully, a few months from now they’re gonna review the application and hopefully I’ll be able to get funded through that process also. And that that grant will be able to help get opportunities for for young people, for young adults, for our youth and to help them get, the help that they need,

Meghan Escobar (02:17)
Hey everyone. Welcome to Real Estate Pros Podcast. I’m your host, Meghan Escobar, and today I’m joined by someone that we’ve been looking forward to chatting with here. We have Joshua Squires. Is that the right way to say it?

Joshua Squires (02:32)
That’s correct. Joshua Squires.

Meghan Escobar (02:34)
Right, who’s been making some serious moves in the recovery home industry? And he has lots of opportunities for tax lien and tax deed opportunities for split profits, split profit opportunities. So Joshua, so glad to have you here. I think our listeners are really going to be able to take something away from how you’re approaching this industry as opportunity and

not just for income opportunity but also an an opportunity to be able to help individuals transition into the recovery phase. So

Let’s dive in. First off, for people who may not be familiar with your world, give us a short version. Like what’s your main focus these days? What what markets are you operating in?

Joshua Squires (03:25)
Well, the the markets that I’m operating in, we have a we have a demographic. my focus is to help ex-offenders, dual diagnosis, recovering addicts. That that’s our market, that’s our target market. is the demographic of people who are familiar with recovery and recovery

based homes. So that’s that’s our market. So we’re we’re in the business of helping people and serving people with a good purpose.

Meghan Escobar (04:08)
Love it. Love it so much. And what caught my attention about you was, you know, the way that you’ve been able to really insert yourself into this nonprofit organization and put yourself in a place where you’re working on building your credit to to get loans and purchase tax liens and you know, that’s that’s not an easy thing to do, especially in this climate that we’re living in, right? But what’s been the key to, you know, you keeping

keeping yourself running smoothly.

Joshua Squires (05:27)
It’s my why.

My why is I’ve always wanted to help people who were disenfranchised and people who are trying to find their place in life. That’s my why. That’s what keeps me going every day. That’s what that’s what keeps me prayed up every day. It’s my why. It’s

what inspires me to you know want to keep this thing going is you know to help people who are just like myself, who just need that extra jump start to get them going and don’t really know who to who to speak to. but have and but you know, you know, many of these people have the same, you know, type of

you know, motivation that I have and I want to reach out to those people and I wanna help those kind of people. That’s so that’s what get that’s what keeps me going. That’s what you know keeps me focused and you know and eager to always wanna help people.

Meghan Escobar (06:40)
Absolutely. Love that. It’s a it’s a bigger vision. It’s it’s more it’s it’s not just about you, right? It’s about the the impact. So I love that. So every person I know has a moment where, you know, things got real. So maybe it was a deal that went sideways or a time they had to pivot fast. I’m curious to know you sharing one of those moments.

Joshua Squires (07:07)
Everyone, you know, everyone has moments where you know they have you know minor setbacks or you know they might fall off or every everyone has those moments, you know, but a as I said before, we we we always gotta have a why. and that’s what that’s what keeps, you know, that’s what keeps, you know.

people motivated to, you know, want to keep something going because they see the vision and the purpose in it. And it could be it it could become something that’s very, very great and very special to a lot of people.

Meghan Escobar (07:56)
Absolutely. And that’s the kind of stuff I don’t think people talk about enough. You know, honestly, it’s it’s what separates folks from people who just dabble. And I know this is, you know, brand new to you and you’ve only been in business a couple months. But with the passion that you’re bringing to the table here and your why is so strong, I believe that’s that’s truly what keeps people in the game long term. So let me ask you this like

What are you most focused on solving or scaling next? Like what’s the next real goal for you?

Joshua Squires (08:27)
The next real goal for me is I’m right now I’m paying my grant writer to complete this grant that’s going to help end youth homelessness. And the grant is due today. So that’s my next real goal is to turn in that grant application. And

to to hopefully, you know, get you know, a few months from now they’re gonna review the application and hopefully I’ll be able to get funded through that process also. And that that grant will be able to help you know get opportunities for for young people, for young adults, for our youth and to help them get, you know, the help that they need, you know.

Meghan Escobar (09:52)
Yeah, absolutely. That’s huge, especially when you’ve already got, you know, yourself working on increasing your credit to get a loan, to get the tax liens and take this to the next level. So this next move with the grant can either, you know, compound things or maybe create chaos depending on how it’s played out. So I know

a lot of people that are listening are either in their journey or they’re looking to level up and just get started. And I think this could be a huge inspiration for somebody who might be on the fence of whether or not they can, you know, take off with nothing and start something, you know. I think it’s it’s a really incredible thing that you’re doing right now. So I think that they’ll definitely benefit from hearing this. So when it comes to building relationships and growing your network, what’s made the biggest difference for you?

Joshua Squires (10:47)
Greatest difference maker is education. every time I go to these networking events and these meetings, I’m getting educated. I’m learning from a lot of people who have been you know making great progress. so the greatest difference maker for me is the type of learning and the type of education that I’m getting.

Every time I attend these meetings I learn something new. And I’m taking that that knowledge and applying it so that I can become a difference maker.

Meghan Escobar (11:18)
I love that.

I love that. I I think that’s so important. I have heard from a a mentor of mine going back a few years that environment is stronger than willpower. So, you know, it’s the places and spaces you put yourself in that can help you get to the next level faster. So you you can’t fake that. Relationships are truly everything in this space. So thank you for sharing that. And and before we wrap, like if somebody wanted to reach out

to you, connect with you and maybe collaborate and learn more about what you’re doing and the impact that you’re trying to make. What is the best way, Joshua, for them to reach you?

Joshua Squires (12:03)
Phone call or email?

Meghan Escobar (12:07)
Okay. And do you want to share that here on the podcast?
