Quentin (02:04)
Hello everyone, welcome to the Real Estate Pros Podcast. I am your host, Q Edmonds, and I’m excited to be here today. I have another fantastic guest. And y’all know this is this is what makes this all worthwhile for me is when we have new people on who we can learn from their experience, right? We all can literally be doing the same thing, but because we’re different, we’re gonna bring different processes to it, different pro approaches to it.
So I’m leaving a different mindset to it. And so I love when we can get a chance to sit down and just learn from each other. And so I have another fantastic guest who has a story to tell. And we’re gonna sit and learn from his experience. And so I wanna introduce you all to Mr. Mark Maiocca Mr. Mark, how you doing today, sir?
Mark Maiocca (02:53)
I’m good. Thank you so much for having me.
Quentin (02:55)
Absolutely, man. Well, listen, I’m I’m glad you’re here, sir. I’m glad we get to have this conversation. And Mr. Mark, I am the type I like to dive right in, right? So I would love for you to tell the people what’s your main focus these days. If you don’t mind, give us a little bit of an origin story, kind of how you got to the place where you’re at. And then man, tell them what part of the world you’re in. People l love to know where people are geographically. So what you’re up to, your origin story, and where you are.
Mr. Mark, you have the floor, sir.
Mark Maiocca (03:26)
My name is Mark Maiocca. I’m a mortgage originator by trait from Newton, Massachusetts. And I originate loans. I’ve been doing it for almost 30 years. I’ve closed over a billion dollars in loans in my career. And I I’ve recently created something called the Core7. and right now we just did an offshoot called Loan Officer and Financial Advisor Partnerships, and that’s kind of
how I built my business, that’s the foundation of it, and I’m pretty excited about it.
Quentin (03:56)
Absolutely. Now man, give me a little bit of origin story. Kind kind of how did you get into this space that you’re in, man?
Mark Maiocca (04:02)
Well, I got I became a mortgage originator by accident. ⁓ I I’ll tell you the very short story, very long story short. ⁓ I was working for the state of Massachusetts, wanted to be a stockbroker, you know, this is nineteen ninety five maybe. so I got in the car and I took off to Arizona.
Quentin (04:06)
Hmm.
Yeah.
Mark Maiocca (04:25)
I don’t know who goes to Arizona to be a stockbroker back then, but you know, it’s usually New York or Chicago. But I go there and I went to a seminar with Dean Witter at the time, and it was a seminar on why you don’t want to be a stockbroker. Scared the crap out of me. I went two days sending out forty eight resumes. I got one back, and it was for a networking network marketing scheme.
Quentin (04:37)
Hmm.
Yeah.
Mark Maiocca (04:53)
I called my uncle, who was a loan officer, and he said, What do you want to do? I said, I want to be able to have a job that I can make a lot of money if I’m really good at it. And he said, you want to be a loan officer? And I had no idea what it was. I thought I’d have like a gun and I’d guard the bank or something like that, you know? but then I got into it and I just I it was it was what I was looking for. And then once I realized
that all my contacts and all the people I could help were back home, I moved back to Massachusetts. I was in Arizona for five months.
Quentin (06:15)
Love it. Yeah. Well listen, man. Thank you. Thank you for letting us know where you are now, kind of how you got there. And so, Mr. Mark, I I I have a saying that I say probably every every podcast episode, right? And so I say destiny has no wasted moments.
Right? Destiny has no wasted moments. And you just, you know, told your story. You told it probably in like two to three minutes, but we know life unfolds in years, just not in minutes, right? And so I would love to know throughout the journey, sir, what have you learned about yourself? without the moments, what have you learned? Have you learned discipline, resilience? Like what is the some of the things that has this journey has revealed to you about yourself?
Mark Maiocca (06:56)
Well, it’s a lot of it is adding value and making a difference. And you know, the story that we that we talked about before, which which is in the book I wrote,
Quentin (07:05)
Yes sir? Yeah.
Mark Maiocca (07:06)
Yeah.
And is when I was sixteen years old my dad passed away with cancer and he he got cancer and he he passed away six weeks later. It was it was devastating. And at the time they were doing really well, my mother and father. They had a a thriving business, I had a a nice ho home down the Cape in Massachusetts and a home in Newton, Massachusetts, and they were really starting to do to do very well.
so he he he passed away and like I said it was devastating and you know we lost everything. But the irony of it was they sold insurance for a living and they had no life insurance. So basically we lost everything. I still had a great life. My mother, God bless her, she was she was so strong.
And then
ten years later I become a mortgage originator and that story came rushing back where I was telling my mother, she loved the guy who did her mortgage. She thought he was great. And I said, I think he did a terrible job. And she said, Why? And I said, You bought two houses. I know you did construction on both, so you had to refinance. I said, So you had four opportunities where this loan officer could have said, you know, the the purchase of a home
ha triggers many financial ra ramifications.
How’s your relationship with your financial advisor? They could have introduced this financial advisor so many times who would have said, you know, as you’re growing your wealth and your kids are going to college and all those things, I think life insurance would have been the first thing they might have talked about. And it just would have changed the tr trajectory of everything. But like you said, it everything happens for a reason. Everything has a purpose. and that’s
Page nine, that’s the first page of my book where I s basically say that people when they buy a home or whatever they do, they need the key seven professionals collaborating together on their behalf to to protect them from risk. and also create more wealth. It’s not all about the the positive side. You gotta protect yourself on the downside too. And ’cause anything can happen. It just takes one little loophole to to to
Quentin (09:22)
Yeah.
Mark Maiocca (09:23)
Crush everything.
Quentin (09:24)
Mark, sir, thank you, man. Thank you for sharing. Thank you just for the gift of leaving your transparency with your story. I I greatly appreciate it. What’s next for you? What’s the next real goal? How are you looking to help people in the future? Talk to me a little bit about that.
Mark Maiocca (10:13)
Well, my my goal is more on the side of of helping professionals create these synergies ⁓ to to build their business. I’ve been working on this Core7 project for many years, finally at a point where we just released loan officer and financial advisor partnerships because that that’s a partnership that
Quentin (10:24)
Hmm.
Mark Maiocca (10:39)
They all work together, you know, when a financial advisor, they always they need a f a mortgage originator to assist their clients. on the mortgage side, we don’t add enough value, in my opinion, to the financial advisor because our clients need them. And they need them when they buy a home. But there’s nothing in a mortgage transaction where they’re required to get a financial advisor. So what I’ve done with this
product that I’ve created in this this coaching system basically is train the loan officer and the advisor to work together where there’s points in the process where the mortgage originator is bringing up the need for a financial advisor and why. So that way when a client buys their first home and they basically create an estate, they’re able to protect themselves and build that protective moat around their business.
And really i it is about the client and protecting them, but also working together in those partnerships can be a really great way to to create business. And that’s where my passion is is really I help loan officers and financial advisors create partnerships to generate referrals and add a add massive value to their clients. That’s kind of the tagline, I guess.
Quentin (11:56)
Love
it. Yep. Mm hmm. Yeah.
Mark Maiocca (11:58)
And I’ll still originate loans for you know, for my partners and the people
I work with, obviously.
Quentin (12:03)
I love it. Well then I’m everything you just said makes me excited to ask you this next question, right? So everyone that comes on, I like to get their unique perspective about this word, relationship. When you hear the word relationship, Mr. Mark, what comes to mind for you, sir?
Mark Maiocca (12:21)
I mean, it’s everything, you know, whether you have a you have a relationship with everything, not just people. You know, so it’s how you brand yourself, you have a relationship with, you know, people can have a spiritual relationship, you know, they can have a relationship with money, they can have a relationship with friends, with business partners. And the one thing I would say is
I think it’s the foundation of the relationship that’s the most important, which in a business sense, which is what we’re focusing on, it’s really getting a foundation of how you’re gonna work together, the type of people you are, so that you you know, two is two one plus one makes three. You know, if you have a good relationship and a good partnership. And that’s how it is in that’s how it is in marriage too. One plus one
Quentin (13:05)
Yeah.
Mark Maiocca (13:11)
actually does many times make three or four or five.
Quentin (13:15)
Yeah, I
Yeah, no, I hear you. It’s funny because as you was talking, you know, one of you know, is a saying, I I’ll be honest, I get it from the Bible, but it says two are better than one because when you have someone there to help you, if you fall, they can help you up. And so, yeah, so those those two is better than one. So now I’m so glad you expanded on relationships. And like you said, the two can equal three and it could equal four, could equal five, because like
Mark Maiocca (13:45)
Yeah.
Quentin (13:46)
Relationship
is all about making a community, right? Making a community where people are sustainable, things are sustainable. And so I absolutely understand, Mr. Mark. So listen, sir, is there any topic that I have not brought up that you would like to talk about? Or is there any other words of inspiration, education, or motivation? Because like maybe you came in with a thought on your mind and you wanted to make sure our viewers kind of knew that thought. I just want to kind of open up the floor for you to land that message.
If you have something like that.
Mark Maiocca (14:57)
Well, you know what, the only thing that comes to mind right now is for you to just keep doing what you’re doing. Because the promotion that especially someone like me who I think I have a a great product, a great mission, nobody knows about it because it’s just because I’m working at so many other things, the word doesn’t get out. And what you do is helping good people get the message out there. So just keep doing what you’re doing and spreading the good word.
I think it’s great.
Quentin (15:26)
Man, I appreciate that. And you’re right. That’s that’s exactly what we want to do. We wanna we’re we’re helping one of another, right? We want to create a community where we continue to help each other because that’s how the community thrives, right? And so I love it, man. So so listen, if someone wanted to reach out to you, connect with you, collaborate with you, learn more about what you’re doing, how can they get in contact with you, sir?
Mark Maiocca (15:51)
I’m gonna give you two ways. the first is you can go to mycore7.com and just as a place to book a call with me. This you can see a little bit of what we’re doing. and also, like I said, that school community that I just opened up, that’d be a great place to connect. I’ll I’ll send you the link so you can put it in the chat or wherever you put it. and that’s the best way. And I’m I’m looking for
I’m looking for people to collaborate with, to grow, spread the word, add value to people and and you know, just try to do good.
Quentin (16:19)
Yeah, yeah. Well listen, sir, let me say three things to you sincerely. First, thank you for your time. I think time is our most precious commodity. So thank you for taking time out to sit with us today. I really, really value your time. Thank you, sir. Secondly, man, thank you for your story. Thank you for the gift of your transparency, the gift of your vulnerability, the gift of your integrity, showing up as your authentic self.
I really believe that stories have a way of planting seeds. We may never see the growth, but the seed is planted and that thing can grow at any given time. So I really believe you planted some seeds today. So thank you for that. And lastly, sir, thank you for your mindset. Thank you for the way you think and bringing that mindset to this platform. I greatly appreciate you coming on today, sir.
Mark Maiocca (17:06)
Well, I appreciate you having me. Thank you so much.
Quentin (17:08)
Absolutely. Well, listen, y’all heard Mr. Mark. His information is in the show notes. Please get in contact with him. But definitely make sure you’re subscribed here.
