Joseph David (00:00)
He says, was never you, Joseph. It was what I was doing through you and you took credit for all of it. Now I want you to go tell him what I did for you. So he’s stripping everything away to build you back up as a man of God to show other people, listen, no matter what you’ve done and what you’ve been through, you can overcome everything. But give me the praise this time. And you’ve been hearing a lot about this on the sportsman. You got Huskies, see my boy Brailey now that’s three pointer for the win. What did he do? He went over to the Duke player. He was hugging him. said, yo man, it’s okay, bro.
Quentin (00:17)
Hello everyone. Welcome to the Real Estate Pros podcast. I am your host Q Edmonds and I am excited to be here today. You know I say that a lot. It’s always true. If you don’t hear me say it, that means my excitement is not where needs to be. But today is special. I got my brother from another mother here. I have my brother here and listen, we’re going to have fun. He is going to…
bring excitement for sure. And listen, he’s going to tell you all about what he does, cause you can’t box this guy in. If you name it, he’s probably done it. And so I am super excited to introduce you all to Mr. Joseph David. Mr. Joseph, how you doing today, sir?
Joseph David (02:43)
Outstanding Q, it’s a pleasure and honor to be here my brother. That short conversation we just had man, I was like, this podcast is gonna be fire. I love adding value to people’s lives and see them see themselves where they’re gonna be in a year. Where are they gonna be in three years from now? See if we get stuck in yesterday bro, there’s nothing going on yesterday. We gotta focus on the present and where we’re going.
Quentin (03:04)
Woo, see man, see? y’all, if you’ve been following me, you know that this guy is talking my type of talk. So let’s do this. Listen, I want to dive right in. I would love for you to tell the people what your main focus is these days. If you can give us a little bit of an origin story, kind of how you got to the point of what you’re doing today. We love the origin story and let them know what part of the world you’re in, man. People like to know geographic of where you are, especially they like, he’s really, really close. Maybe I can go get in contact with him.
So man, tell them what you’re doing, your origin story and where you are. Mr. Joseph, you have the floor, sir.
Joseph David (03:39)
I’m standing. Yes. Again. Thank you again, man. Yes. I’ve been a real estate investor now, guys, for she’s over 25 years. I love the game of real estate. I love being in the game and the field of play. Right. I just got done over here. I got softball practice today. We got softball season coming. I just left my father in Florida. We played 18 holes of golf. My 88 year old father. Right. So I got 30 years to get there. I’ll be turning 60 here in December. I’m in Williamsburg, Virginia down here. I’ve been playing the softball league for five years, man. It’s some of the most loving, kind, fun having. I mean, I always believe work hard, play hard. Right. So
I come play softball and then I go work on houses. go golf course, I go work on houses. I get tired, I go take a nap, get some suntan, and then I go to work and work the night shifts. See, this is the game of real estate. We can go in and come and be pleased. And sometimes I can’t sleep. You got the insomnia because you got all this stuff going on your brain. I just get up two o’clock in the morning, go do some taping, do some compounding, throw a little paint on the wall and keep on rolling, right? I started this journey back pretty much when I was 17 years old. I decided I was going to have money. I didn’t like being broke. I didn’t like being poor.
I said, I’m gonna work a full-time job and be a senior in high school. So I had a full-time job as a senior high school. My day started at seven in the morning and I went to 11 o’clock at night when I was 17 years old. But guess what? My mom left when I was 12. And then all of a sudden I blamed my mom for leaving me. I watched her walk out the door and said, I’m leaving your father. I’m like, no, you’re leaving me. So I went on a 38 year journey of sedating with alcohol, sedating with
And I was like, man, but I had the money so I can do what I want, right? So I’m out there executing.
Quentin (05:48)
you
Joseph David (05:50)
And then one day there’s always this big party going on. We’re all sitting around this keg party, smoking the weed. And all of sudden I was like, the Lord says, if you don’t get out of here, you’re gonna be dead or in jail. That scared me. So I went to all the recruiters. The army signed me up. did electronics for four years in the military. Came out of the military, 25 years of corporate America. You guys know as entrepreneurs, we don’t like to be told what to do. So my house, my rules, guess what? I’m out. My dad told me that, I left. The business corporate world told me that, I’m out. And that’s when I got divorced. Went into a divorce, right?
Quentin (06:17)
Hmm.
Joseph David (06:19)
I sold my first house, I made $85,000. First property. said, man, I was making 50 grand a year back, this is back when I was 23, 24 years old, making 50 G a year. And I was only spending like three, 400 bucks, right? So I was banking. And all of a sudden I saw the opportunity of real estate. said, I’m quitting this job. Come this spring, I’m leaving. All of a sudden they came out with a severance package. Took the package, had a year medical, jumped right in to real estate. And then…
050607, I was working from 7 to 11. I had a vending business that I picked up from my father when he retired. He went to Florida, right? So me and my brother were doing vending by 8 to 12. I do my vending business. Go out, boom, grab my tools, jump in the van, half an hour away and in Water Bowl, Connecticut, started flipping houses. I was doing four to six houses a year by myself in 050607. And we know what happened in 0708. A of people started jumping out windows because they lost everything. You see, here’s the game. And I just wanted the audience to know, if you lose, it’s not a loss.
Quentin (06:56)
Mmm.
Joseph David (07:12)
It’s a lesson. Stop taking your losses as lessons, man. Like the same thing in the softball field. We lose a game. Listen, man, we get them tomorrow, bro. We got always tomorrow. If God wakes you up tomorrow, guess what? We got another opportunity. Most people say, I don’t want to, I’m blaming and complaining and all this stuff. Listen, you get to, you’re listening to this podcast, you get to do life today. And if you get to, how dare you blame and complain about your situation? Because I know there’s somebody out there that’s got it worse than you do, got it worse than I do.
Quentin (07:15)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Joseph David (07:39)
I have no excuses. got all my arms, all my legs. can hear, I can see. Get back up. Get up. Go out there and make it happen again. Because I’ve seen a lot of men, I was just sharing with you, coaching a lot of men over the last eight years in these high level entrepreneur group. These men, get back up and get back out there. Because I know if you succeeded in business before, you’re one of the few, one in 10%. Those people will build it back again if they don’t give up. Because winners never win and winners never lose. Just keep on going. Do not stop, man.
Quentin (08:02)
Mm. Mm.
Joseph David (08:08)
That’s been a short part of my journey. I we got 20 minutes here. I can talk forever about that. I don’t like talking about me no more. I want to talk about what the Lord has done for me, what He brought me out of it, and the lessons He’s taught me these last five years, because here’s what’s going to happen. The money that I had, and I retired at 50 years old, I made the big videos. I yeah, look at me, everybody. I told you when I was 30 at my birthday party. I’m going to retire at 50. And I knew it because the Lord was showing me. He didn’t tell me what I was going be doing after 50, though. So the last nine years, He’s been humbling.
Quentin (08:16)
I am.
Joseph David (08:36)
He says, was never you, Joseph. It was what I was doing through you and you took credit for all of it. Now I want you to go tell him what I did for you. So he’s stripping everything away to build you back up as a man of God to show other people, listen, no matter what you’ve done and what you’ve been through, you can overcome everything. But give me the praise this time. And you’ve been hearing a lot about this on the sportsman. You got Huskies, see my boy Brailey now that’s three pointer for the win. What did he do? He went over to the Duke player. He was hugging him. said, yo man, it’s okay, bro.
Quentin (08:54)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Joseph David (09:05)
If that was me back in the day, I would have been celebrating me. Look at that three pointer, I’m the man, right? Now he goes over, he’s a perfect example of humility. Went over and hugged him, he yo man, get back up and do it again. Get back up and do it again. Do not stop, right? What are you hearing from this brother? That’s some fire, everybody bring some fire up in here this morning. Good to see everybody.
Quentin (09:17)
Yeah.
Whoo, man. Yes, sir. Bro, I love it. And I love how you said, you don’t want to talk about you. You want to talk about what God did through you. And I want to continue that train of thought, right? Because like we know that people overcome by our testimonies and people that they’re listening to me here, they know I put a premium on stories because our stories plant seeds for other people. And so I asked this question, Mr. Joseph.
wants every podcast. I make this statement first. say destiny has no wasted moments.
Meaning no matter what we’ve been through in life, destiny has been building these moments to where we are right now. And man, I listened to you bro. 25 years investor just came from playing golf with your dad, who I think you said is 88. 17 year journey. I mean, you were 17 years old when this journey started. Man.
Joseph David (10:52)
Amen.
Quentin (10:59)
battling 38 years with drugs and alcohol. Like you have had so many moments that you have overcome to bring you to where you are today. So my question is, Mr. Joseph, what has these moments taught you about yourself? What has it revealed to you? Has it revealed discipline? Has it revealed humility? What has these moments in your life and your journey revealed about you, Mr. Joseph?
Joseph David (11:26)
Tenacity man, never give up, right? Because you’re again, everything in life is an experience. And here’s the thing I want people to know today. If you have one takeaway, our human brain doesn’t mentally mature until you’re 40 or 50 years old. That’s why they call it a midlife crisis. And you see a lot of these men.
They say, can’t do it no more. I have no more energy. My wife wants to leave me. I’ve been cheating. I’m infidelity. My kids don’t know me. Everything’s falling apart. That’s when these men break because they did it under their own power. When you do things under your own power, eventually that energy, that strength runs out because your talent will absolutely make you a millionaire. There’s no doubt about it. Your character is going to keep you there. And see, when you take the credit for what he’s done for you, that’s when we lose, bro. That’s when we lose, Q.
We have to make sure we honor those who’ve helped us get there and go back. Whenever you’re looking down on somebody, the only time you should be looking down on them, when you’re picking them up. That is it. That’s what that UConn player did this past weekend. And he made that shot when I said, pick them up, get up, man. Come on, let’s go do it again. Let’s keep fighting. We still got our arms. We still got our muscles. We still got our wisdom. We still got our talent. We got our time, our treasures. Let’s go. Let’s do it again.
He’s all excited.
Quentin (12:38)
Man, brother, are talking. People that follow me, they know this is my type of stuff right here. Like you are talking. And I love, man, just talking about lifting other people up. ⁓ man, this is so good. Like your journey, your testimony is so powerful. And I think it resonates for people that’s listening. they’re really keying into what you’re saying, it’s really a perspective shift. It’s perspective changing.
conversation, man. So I appreciate you so much, Of course, know, people that they’re to talk about, you know, the real estate and they get this too. They get all they get us because we are the constant thing in our businesses is us. And so we got to talk about the tools that we use, which is faith, which is perseverance, which is tenacity, as you said. And I want to know what your business, what is it that you’re looking to solve or scale next? Like, what’s the next real goal for you business wise?
Joseph David (13:38)
So that’s going to be multiple fronts. As I mentioned earlier, I have a nonprofit called the Rises One Foundation, right? So we’ve been building veteran houses for veterans. There’s a whole story behind that, why that got started, helping out a 96-year-old Gold Royce who was kicked out of his house. And then I looked at, okay, so what do I want to do the rest of my life? What’s going to really fulfill my purpose? What brings me joy? If you’re doing something that’s not bringing you joy and something you don’t love, it’s not going to last. And that’s why 90 % of businesses fail.
I believe that people listen to your podcast are the law of the few. They make stuff happen and no matter what, they’re going to figure out a way. But see, here’s the thing is, you don’t have to take advantage of people in order to get where you’re going to go because I know there’s abundance and there’s enough for everybody. Most of the deals I’ve done, 20, 30%. So 20, 30,000 off the price of the houses that I’ve sold. I’ve done over 53 houses now in my career. Most of those in the last 11, 12 years.
The most we’ve ever done in one year was 15. The only year we did 11. I made less money with more houses because I am not a manager of people. I like to keep it simple. Keep it simple, sibling. Whoever told you to it simple, stupid, that’s the wrong verbiage. That’s the lie from the enemy. It’s keep it simple, sibling, because we’re all brothers and sisters. We’re going to rise as one and do this together. This is the only way you win is when we do it together. You see the division happening now. When I grew up, it black against the white. People were stabbing each other, fights, burning crosses. That was all just propaganda, man. Don’t believe the lies, everybody. Don’t believe it.
Don’t believe the lie. Those are just lies from the enemy. When you believe it and then the people believe it so much they defend it. They gotta know the truth. So now I’m here to spread the truth about business, the truth about life, the truth about why you are where you are, everything in your life, you put it there. Guess what? You are the problem, you are the solution. So now you gotta go figure it out. Okay, so if I can’t do it, how do I lean on? And Father God, how do I do this? Lord Jesus, help me out here. I don’t know what I’m doing. you never read a Bible before? Well, you better pick one up and get that dust off that thing, until you can’t…
Until you can’t go see your father, until you can’t go see your mother, until you can’t make no more money, now’s the time to do it while you can. Don’t tell me you can’t, because I know you can.
Quentin (16:25)
Hey, Mr. Joseph, you know how we say in church, listen, I’m not raising no offering for you, Mr. Joseph. You man, you preaching brother. I’m about to start passing the plate, bro. He preaching, man. No, man, I know you are giving your life and sharing your testimony, your experience and I’m here for it, man. You talk about people and you bring up another topic that I always bring up on this podcast, relationships. Mr. Joseph, when you hear that word, relationship,
What comes to mind when you hear relationship?
Joseph David (16:57)
See the relationship of every person, everything, every material thing, your houses, your cars, your wife, your kids, your swimming pool, your baseball bat, your softball glove, all those possessions, they’re gonna disappear. That’s a temporary relationship. There’s only one relationship that lasts forever. It’s up to us to go find that relationship. We’re going to Hades or we’re going to heaven. The choices are, see as human beings, we’ve been given dominion, power,
and a sound mind. Most of us messed all that up. We thought we had the power. We thought we can do this. Look at what I’m doing, but by his spirit, he’s getting ready to pour out a blessing that no one’s going to be able to understand unless you pick up and dust off that Bible. It’s got all the truth that you ever want. And I’ve been studying for four years straight every day. Every single day I’m studying. I said, what don’t I know? I want to know what I don’t know. I hired this guy at the entrepreneur group.
I was there for eight years. I thought I was gonna do it the rest of my life. Go wake up my kings. I looked in my eyes after the spiritual waking I had in 2016. I could look right in my eyes. I was like, oh my gosh, there you are. And the Lord spoke to me. He said, you go wake up my kings. Did that for eight years. And he called me out. That says, go wake up my chosen people and go wake up my kings because we have to rise as one. We have to do it together. Everybody’s doing it their own accord. Let me take advantage of Q so I can get my house and my money and my wife and my, my, me, my, myself and I. That’s gonna get you nowhere. The long game is what we’re playing here.
We’re playing the long game. We can all do this together. There’s enough abundance for everybody. It’s a win, win, win, I call that. I win, you win, and the client wins. That’s abundance, bro. When you’re coming from abundance mindset, 85 % of what we do is mindset. If you don’t get your mind right, you’re going to be fed the lies. You’re going to believe the lies. You’re going to defend the lies. And eventually you’re to go, why is me? then the worst part, you blame God. Why are you doing this, God? You’re not going to call God to help you. You start blaming him. You don’t know who he is.
crazy how we operate as humans in our humaneness. We got to surrender all the idea of what we thought we were supposed to be, who we are to become. Who are you going to become in the next 90 days? Break life down into 90 days. I created this program called the Five Us. Faith, family, fitness, finance, and fun. You ain’t taking care of your temple. You’re not making no money. You ain’t got no faith. You ain’t got no family. You ain’t got nothing. Nothing going on.
You have nothing going on. You ain’t got having some fun on the softball field, playing some golf, go do a little fishing, banging out some three and five pound bass over there, large mouth in it. You ain’t having no fun. How does that song say till you can’t? If you’re you bait your hook and go see your dad and go for a little fishing. Dad, can’t, I’m working, I’m flipping houses today. I got softball, dad, can’t go do that. And all of the next day your dad passes away. Oh man, I should have went fishing with my dad yesterday. Right? That’s called the cemetery of dreams, bro. Most people’s dreams die in the cemetery with them.
Quentin (19:42)
Mmm.
Mm-hmm.
Sorry, ⁓
Joseph David (19:53)
That’s where they fall. That’s what I’ve seen and witnessed after
19 boot camps and thousands of men hearing their testimony, see what they went through. mean, listen, nobody’s perfect. You’re never going to figure this out. We had one dude, came in, he said, $45 million just sold his company, getting $2 million a year stipend. He came into that boot camp experience. We asked him on day one, what do you want, bro? He said, peace. Day two, what do you want, bro? Peace. Day three, what do you want? We’re getting ready to crack them open on day three. What do you want? said, peace. said, bro, you can’t buy peace.
That stuff is something you have to earn when you ask for it. There’s only one person that can give you peace. If you ain’t got peace in your mind, and your spirit, you’re going nowhere fast. You’re going to see your health get challenged. You’re going to see your relationships get challenged. You’re going to see your finances get challenged. I know one guy one time he had $500,000 in cash in a bag. His wife left, his kids left. He used to sleep with that pillow of money. I still got my money. Empty inside, man. I don’t want that to be anybody listening to this podcast today.
Don’t ever, the worst thing you can ever do is go to your grave with regret. That’s the worst thing you can ever do. Today, I’m here to encourage you. Get up. Get back up. You have no excuses. I know people over in the Middle East right now fighting for this country. Someone ain’t gonna come home. So you can’t. Dust that book off, read it. Go love on somebody. What’s the final command, bro? says, go make disciples of all nations. Love your neighbor as I loved you.
That was his final two commands. And if I was in the military and I disobeyed the command, I’d be sitting right now in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, busting big rocks into little rocks because I didn’t obey the commands. And now here we have the tenacity saying, God, look what you did to my life. It all fell apart. had it all. And we cry. We cry like little women, especially us men. like little women, man. The women got the strength is what I see. These women get burnt. They bleed every month. I said, how the heck do we got nothing to complain about? We’re not doing none of stuff. You know what saying? Come on, man. Get back up.
Quentin (21:39)
Yeah. Yeah.
You
Joseph David (21:52)
Get back up my brother’s sister. Get back up my brother’s sister. You ain’t done yet. Get back up. Come on. Let’s go. I’ll help you. Let me help you. I’ll pick you back up.
Quentin (21:54)
Yeah.
Man, Mr. Joseph, sir, you’ve said so much. And everyone that’s listening, he pointed to the commands. And first command is love the Lord thy God with all our heart, thy mind, thy strength. And the second greatest command is just like the first, is that she love thy neighbor as he loved thyself. And so this man talked about faith, fitness, finance, and fun.
You know, you came here for business and you’re getting a whole lot more. But when we talk about God, particularly me and my brother here, we understand that God is concerned with your business. Like if you look in scripture, you get to Exodus. Like we are in a cra- like we have craft. God has given us a gift. And you just listen, He’s given you a gift that you can craft. And in Exodus 31, God shows that He’s concerned about the craft that He’s giving you. He will empower you.
Joseph David (22:44)
Yeah.
Quentin (23:03)
to fulfill your craft. He’s concerned about your craft. God is concerned about business. And so please know, I know you’re listening
and you’re like, hey, I was here to talk about real estate. All of this matters. All this has everything to do with you being successful in real estate. And so Mr. Joseman, I appreciate you, sir. Listen, if someone wanted to reach out to you, connect with you, collaborate with you, learn more about what you’re doing, how can they get in contact with you, sir?
Joseph David (23:15)
Yeah,
they can go to my Facebook page or my website the Facebook page is Joseph David Schirmer S C H I R MER, but see
The Lord called me and told me to put that name out there. I used to go by Joe Schirmer, the fun guy. I had the drugs, I had the alcohol, we had parties going on. Come on everybody. I wasn’t throwing no diddy parties, but I was throwing some parties, right? And all of a sudden, he says, I want you to change your name. Two years ago, change your name back to name I gave you, Joseph David Schirmer. Joseph means God will give, David means beloved. God will give his beloved son. He said, I want to use you, man, like nobody’s gonna do this. Okay Lord, I’m here, use me as you see fit. So I changed my name, right? So go to Joseph David Schirmer on Facebook.
Quentin (23:53)
Yeah. Yeah.
Come on. Come on.
Joseph David (24:10)
Here’s the thing is, no one’s gonna remember your name. That’s why all these big wigs have one name. Like for you, it’s Q. I can always remember Q. I’m not gonna remember Quentin. I’m not gonna remember Edmonds. I’m not remember Joseph. But me, I’m the rise guy. Why? Because the Lord told me we need to rise as one. It’s not about you. It’s not about Quentin. It’s not about world leaders. It’s not about big businesses. It’s about all of us coming together. See, when we come together, the weapon can be formed against you and prosper. When we’re divided, that’s when that weapon’s prosper.
Quentin (24:18)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Joseph David (24:38)
And that’s what we’re witnessing in real time. See, my Bible says everything that’s happening right now is already in there. There’s 2,500 prophecies. 2,000 came true already. There’s only 500 left before we’re leaving here. So people need to understand salvation comes at a cost. Business comes at a price. Your relationship with your wife and the kids is going to cost you something. You come home empty.
Like most of the men I witness come home empty, the wife feels empty, the kids feel empty. The next thing know, you’re to have an empty house with $500,000 and fall asleep with it and say, I still got my money. And eventually that will go too.
But follow me on ther1seguy.com R 1 S E ther1seguy.com and Joseph David Schirmer. I’ve been on Facebook for 19 years, bro. Public profile from day one. I have nothing to hide. I do a podcast every single Sunday. They can go on there. I always whatever I did that week for a podcast. The Lord put through me. I have nothing prepared for my podcast. I just show up on Sunday morning. He gives me some words. I print it out and I go up and talk to it. So that’s why it’s it’s real and authentic. A of years ago, couple of weeks ago, was sobbing talking about my mom. Call your mom to you can’t.
I didn’t even see that verse in the song. I printed out the lyrics. He showed me, printed out the lyrics, talked to the lyrics. I never saw the lyrics about, your mama. All and all of sudden, I said, man, he’s gonna call my mama. I just started crying on you. said, someone needs to call their mama. Someone needs to call their daddy right now, because they’re not gonna be here tomorrow. And the Lord was showing me, he said, you need to call him today, because you think you got more time. You don’t have more time. Today is the day. So yeah, so they can find me any questions. You can DM me on Facebook.
I’m always on Messenger, there’s no problem finding me there. I said, 19 years public profile. I’ve had two haters, bro, and all those years, you better believe they’re gonna be coming out in full force. He’s not coming here, because I’m coming out boldly for the Lord, for business, for relationships, for your families, for my brothers, for your sisters. Look it, we may have a different mother, we got the same father. And we go to him for answers, he will give you the answers. That’s how much he loves us, bro. And you know that, I know that. I did not know that until I started picking up. So pray fast, read your Bible. The Bible says when you’ve…
when you fast, not if you fast. Well, I can’t stop. I eat three meals a day, man. I got breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and I love all this stuff. You better start fasting. You better start drinking more lemon water in the morning, get your body healthy. That’s the temple of God you got rolling up in here. Make sure you keep it in shape. If my dad’s 88 years old still playing golf, you can do it too, but you have to choose to do that.
Quentin (26:56)
Mr. Joseph, sir, man, I got to say three things to you, sir. Thank you for your time, man. Thank you for being here. You could have been doing anything but you’re here with us. Secondly, thank you for your story. People heard me say, and I say it a lot, Jesus taught in parables. And so our story is so important. So thank you for the parable of your life, sharing your story. Lastly, man, thank you for your mindset, your perspective, and bringing that mindset to this platform. I truly appreciate you coming through today.
Joseph David (27:23)
